Strange diets of the century!

Let’s be honest here! It’s really difficult to lose weight! Women through out the centuries have struggled to fit into smaller- than normal sized dresses just because of the adage, “Thinner is better!” And a few of the weirdest diets have arisen out of this desperate need to lose weight! Lets just take a look at women are willing to do to just to lose a few pounds!

The Fruit and vegetable diet!
It’s that simple! You just eat only fruits and veggies. The Greek philosopher, Pythagoras and his friends were followers of this diet. He and his followers are credited with being the foremost followers of vegetarianism. And they did manage to become enviable size-zeros!

The Vomitorium Vulgaris of the Romans
Well, the Romans were certainly famous for their orgies, sexual or otherwise! But at major banquets they had a special room reserved where they vomited up
Whatever they ate! And this was purely voluntary as it made space in their stomachs for the several courses of gourmet food which was served at banquets! Another great way to lose weight? Who knows but something I would never try!

The Jesus Diet!
The bible doesn’t mention this nifty little fact at all. But according to the www.jesusdiet.com, fasting and prayer are the best way to lose weight. You lose weight by fasting and you pray hard to God to make you stick to the fasting weightloss wagon. A pretty good deal if God listens to your prayers regularly!

The Victorian Diet!
In Victorian times, it was considered the height of beauty if you were thin and frail. As a result, women intentionally starved themselves to emancipation to look like there were weak and frail.

The Tapeworm Diet!
Oh yuck! Imagine eating a tapeworm to lose weight! I’m not joking; supermodels Claudia Schiffer are purported to have tried this diet. It works pretty simply. You eat the tapeworm and it takes up permanent residence in your gut. All the food you eat is ingested by the tapeworm which starts its own colony in your gut. You are perpetually hungry but you don’t really put on weight; in fact you lose weight because of the tapeworms in your intestines. Although this might help you to lose weight, it’s downright dangerous for you. No matter how desperate you are to lose weight; tapeworms are not the solution.

The Grapefruit Diet!
Hollywood is great with newer and innovative diets that might or might not work. But they sure do get popular with the celebs. The grapefruit diet is just one such diet that worked great as it did have a lot of scientific research attached to it stating that grapefruits contained enzymes which helped in weightloss. You had to limit yourself to 800 calories which eating as much grapefruit as possible to burn off all your existing fat depots. Did it work? I don’t know but it’s still popular!

Being thin is in, but it’s not easy to reach that perfect rail thin figure that all models have. For many women it’s a life time struggle to lose weight and fit in to that perfect size zero dress. But hey, we can dream can’t we!
