Tiling courses: learning the basics!

If you are already are working as a handyman, then learning how to do tiling is a really great additional skill you can acquire. Tiling courses are easy to come by on the internet but you do have to choose the best tiling courses that suit your individual needs. You cannot really take a month or a year off from your work to learn tiling through full time tiling courses! It’s just not worth it! But there are several ways that you can learn tiling through tiling courses while still continuing with your daily profession. For example,

1. Online tiling courses- There are several varieties of online tiling courses available on the internet. It’s easy to choose one and just pay the money online and then do the tiling courses at your leisure. But you should also know that tiling is a hands-on job! Just learning the theory is not going to help you actually deal with on-the-job problems. Try to choose or shortlist tiling courses which are attached to a local vocational course schools. Or find out if the tiling courses you have short listed have a practical training session. If they do, the tiling courses you have chosen are well worth the money you will pay for them.
2. Part- time tiling courses- Frankly, I would prefer that everyone who wants to take up tiling courses choose something part-time. This works out best in terms of payment for the course, working hours and of course, work-experience. You can choose to apprentice with a tiling company while studying part-time or better still you can ask them to sponsor your tiling courses. This way, you not only get part-time experience but also a paid semi-permanent job. The only drawback you might experience is that you might have to sign a contract with your employer giving him a few years on the job. But think of this positively as a semi-permanent job and frankly, it’s a win-win situation!
3. Full time tiling courses- For student’s right out of school and looking forward to a full time career in tiling, a fulltime tiling courses program works out really great all round. You might have to take up a few electives to prepare you for the tiling courses. Find out the specifics at your local vocational colleges and you should get the details readily. After you’ve short listed the tiling courses, do remember that you might have to apprentice with a tiling firm to get practical experience.

No matter what type of tiling courses you take remember that you have to have practical experience. Most employers are not really interested in what type of tiling courses you are taking, but they are really interested and particular about the experience you have. Theoretical education is fine but you should remember that any theory has to be backed with solid hands-on working knowledge. You should know how to lay tiles, measure spaces, cut tiles and apply adhesive or cement as required to the undersurface of tiles, grouting and polishing. It is a labor–intensive job and you should be committed to it.
